May 29, 2016 DENISE ILEENE DAMROW [#100538], 64, of Long Beach, was suspended from the practice of law for 60 days. She was also placed on two years’ probation and faces a two-year suspension if she fails to comply with the terms of her disciplinary probation. The order took effect May 29, 2016. In October 2013, Damrow made an appearance on behalf of a client when she was suspended from the practice of law and didn’t notify the court of her suspension. The following April, she made another court appearance on behalf of the same client while suspended.She also twice submitted reports to the Office of Probation stating that she had complied with the provisions of the State Bar Act, which she knew to be untrue because she had made appearances as an attorney while suspended.She had one prior record of discipline, a 2012 suspension for failing to perform legal services competently, account for client funds or refund unearned fees.June 21, 2012 DENISE ILEENE DAMROW, 60, of Long Beach was suspended for one year, stayed, placed on two years of probation and was ordered to take the MPRE. The order took effect June 21, 2012. Damrow was retained to pursue a civil action against two individuals, one of whom filed for bankruptcy. Damrow’s client paid an additional $1,400 (in addition to a $3,000 advance fee) for her to pursue an adversary action against the person who filed for bankruptcy, but she did not do so. She declined to file the civil action without payment of more fees.She stipulated that she failed to perform legal services competently, account for client funds or refund unearned fees.In mitigation, Damrow had no discipline record in nearly 30 years of practice, cooperated with the bar’s investigation and agreed to refund more than the client paid her. |
