Discipline Summaries

October 25, 2013

LEWIS STEVEN GOLDBLATT [#90674], 60, of Gilroy was suspended for two years, stayed, placed on two years’ probation with an actual 90-day suspension and ordered to take the MPRE and comply with rule 9.20 of the California Rules of Court. The order took effect Oct. 25, 2013.

Goldblatt stipulated to the facts surrounding a discipline matter in Missouri, where he is also licensed to practice law. Missouri law requires that attorneys keep complete records of client trust accounts for at least five years after termination of the representation, or from the date of the last disbursement of funds – whichever is later.

In August 2011, the Office of Chief Disciplinary Counsel for the Supreme Court of Missouri performed an audit of Goldblatt’s client trust account, finding a number of deficiencies, including evidence that the client ledger was not maintained, no monthly trust account bank reconciliations were performed and that Goldblatt did not monitor or supervise activity in his trust account. As a result, the Missouri Supreme Court ordered him suspended indefinitely and not entertaining a petition for reinstatement for a period of one year from the date of its order.

In mitigation, Goldblatt had no prior record of discipline and entered into a full stipulation with the State Bar prior to trial.
