Discipline Summaries
October 27, 1996 JUDITH ANN LAU [#82238], 52, of Cape Canaveral, Fla., was suspended for one year, stayed, and placed on two years of probation with an actual 60-day suspension. The order took effect Oct. 27, 1996. Lau failed to file four quarterly probation reports on time, as required by a previous probation. There was no mitigating evidence, although the court noted that Lau is unemployed and cares for her aged and infirm parents as well as her mentally ill adult son and his three children. In addition, she was involved in a near-fatal car accident.Although the State Bar sought Lau's disbarment, the bar court found such a step "much too harsh." It noted that Lau filed all her probation reports, although some were late, she complied with rule 955, and although she has not made restitution, it is because of her lack of financial resources. |
