Discipline Summaries

February 6, 1997

PETER L. RECCHIA [#77857], 54, of Lake Forest was suspended for one year, stayed, and placed on one year of probation, effective Feb. 6, 1997.

Recchia pleaded guilty to carrying a concealed firearm, a misdemeanor, after he entered the Orange County courthouse with a gun in his briefcase. He had taken the gun to his office to show it to a colleague and forgot it was in his briefcase when he went to court. He did not have a permit to carry the concealed weapon.

His actions did not constitute moral turpitude, but they did amount to misconduct warranting discipline.

In 1994, Recchia was placed on five years of probation and given a five-year stayed suspension in 1994 for multiple acts of dishonesty and concealment, mostly resulting from the expansion of his office and his failure to supervise his staff.

He received a second five-year probation and five-year stayed suspension in 1995 for not properly supervising a law student who worked for him and represented a client.
