October 4, 2002

LAWRENCE WILLIAM MURCHISON [#73957], 52, of San Lorenzo was suspended for one year, stayed, placed on one year of probation with a 30-day actual suspension and was ordered to take the MPRE within one year. The order took effect Oct. 4, 2002.

Murchison stipulated that he failed to perform legal services competently or respond to a client's status inquiries in two unlawful detainer actions.

He failed to appear at three hearings and was sanctioned by the court each time for a total of $1,000. He did not return his client's phone calls and ultimately closed his office without notifying the client.

In mitigation, he had family problems and he cooperated with the bar's investigation.
