Discipline Summaries

December 18, 1996

THOMASINA MARNE REED [#67241], 48, of Inglewood was suspended for six months, stayed, placed on two years of probation, and was ordered to take the MPRE within one year. The order took effect Dec. 18, 1996.

Reed stipulated to seven counts of misconduct in five separate matters. She failed to supervise an employee, perform the services for which she was hired, communicate with clients or respond to their inquiries. She took an arbitrator's ruling in a fee dispute to court, thus presenting a claim which wasn't warranted under fee arbitration statutes.

She also took a promissory note and deed of trust on a client's home while handling the client's divorce and support. She did not obtain the client's written consent to the terms of the transaction, nor did she disclose the terms and conditions of the agreement in writing.

In mitigation, Reed has practiced since 1975 without any discipline, has served on several community boards of directors, and has served as an arbitrator and judge pro tem in southern California.
