Discipline Summaries

May 13, 2013

MICHAEL PATRICK RIDLEY [#54409], 66, of Costa Mesa was placed on interim suspension May 13, 2013 following a conviction for driving under the influence of alcohol with three or more prior felonies. He was ordered to comply with rule 9.20 of the California Rules of Court.

June 16, 2012

MICHAEL PATRICK RIDLEY, 65, of Irvine was suspended for three years, stayed, placed on four years of probation with a six-month actual suspension and he was ordered to take the MPRE within one year and comply with rule 9.20 of the California Rules of Court. The order took effect June 16, 2012.

Ridley was convicted in 2008 of driving under the influence and possessing an open container of alcohol, both misdemeanors, but was accepted in the State Bar Alternative Discipline Program and the Lawyer Assistance Program, opportunities for lawyers with substance abuse or mental health issues. He was terminated from the LAP because he did not comply with its recommendation that he enroll either in an inpatient treatment program or residential multidisciplinary assessment program.

Ridley also did not comply with conditions attached to a 2005 public reproval.

In mitigation, Ridley cooperated with the bar’s investigation and had family problems.
