JOHN D. McCURDY II [#54091], 53, of Newhall was suspended for four years, stayed, and placed on four years of probation with an actual two-year suspension and until he proves his rehabilitation and passes the MPRE. The order took effect Feb. 6, 1997, but the actual suspension was retroactive to May 1, 1995.

McCurdy pleaded no contest to three felonies in 1994 after he caused an automobile accident resulting in the death of an 11-year-old and injuries to four family members. His blood alcohol level exceeded .20 percent at the time.

He was sentenced to six years in state prison and was placed on interim suspension by the State Bar May 27, 1995.

McCurdy had a previous DUI conviction in 1985.

In mitigation, his insurance carrier paid the victims $1.35 million, he began psychotherapy, and he has joined AA in prison.
