February 9, 1997 ALAN A. JOSEPH [#45402], 53, of Los Angeles was suspended for one year, stayed, and placed on two years of probation. The order took effect Feb. 9, 1997. Joseph did not diligently pursue five workers' compensation cases. He stipulated that he failed to properly supervise his staff, communicate with clients, respond to clients' reasonable status inquiries and turn over client files. Joseph did not notify one client that her case was dismissed and continued to represent her for several years. It took another client three years to determine whether rehabilitation training would be covered as a workers' compensation benefit. In mitigation, Joseph overhauled his office management practices to prevent the problems which led to his misconduct. He has no record of discipline since his admission to the bar in 1970. |
