Discipline Summaries

October 15, 2016

SARAH ELIZABETH SCHUMACHER [#282341], 29, of Santa Cruz, was placed on two years’ probation and faces a one-year suspension if she fails to comply with the terms of her disciplinary probation. She was also ordered to take the MPRE. The order took effect Oct. 15, 2016.

Schumacher’s suspension stems from a 2015 guilty plea to driving while under the influence of alcohol. On May 12, 2010, a police officer tried to pull Schumacher over on the Ventura freeway after noticing her car was weaving. Schumacher instead accelerated, and the officer had to use a loudspeaker to get her to pull over. Her blood alcohol level was measured at .13 percent.

She was arrested again on March 23, 2015 after she drove her car into a ravine in Kern County. One witness told officers Schumacher appeared to be traveling 65 to 70 miles per hour when she drove through a stop sign and into the ravine. Her blood alcohol level was about .19 percent.

In mitigation, she provide 16 character reference letters, voluntarily participated in Alcoholics Anonymous and the Lawyers’ Assistance Program and entered into a pretrial stipulation with the State Bar.
