Discipline Summaries

October 25, 2015

MICHAEL CHRISTOPHER SCOVILL [#277128], 33, of Upland, was disbarred Oct. 25, 2015 and ordered to comply with rule 9.20 of the California Rules of Court and pay restitution.

Scovill failed to respond to a notice of disciplinary charges filed by the State Bar and his default was entered.

The bar moved to disbar him under rule 5.85 of the State Bar’s Rules of Procedure because he made no move to have the default set aside or vacated within 90 days.

The charges were deemed admitted. In one matter, Scovill failed to perform by not promptly drafting an amended complaint and failing to appear at an ex parte hearing seeking dismissal of his client’s complaint or to refund unearned advanced fees. In two other matters, he improperly withdrew from employment and failed to account, refund unearned fees or promptly pay client funds.

He was ordered to pay $2,456 plus interest in restitution.
