January 17, 2014 PADRIK SYMBIO RYAN [#256997], 38, of Coarsegold was suspended for one year, stayed, placed on one year of probation with an actual 90-day suspension and ordered to take the MPRE and comply with rule 9.20 of the California Rules of Court. The order took effect Jan. 17, 2014. Ryan stipulated to failing to take reasonable steps to avoid reasonably foreseeable prejudice to a client, promptly respond to a client’s reasonable status inquiries about his case, refund unearned advanced fees or render appropriate accounts to a client.Ryan’s misconduct stemmed from a divorce matter he handled in 2011 and 2012. Between October 2011 and February 2012, the client called Ryan approximately 15 times to discuss the status of his case but Ryan failed to respond, telling him he was too busy. In March 2012, Ryan informed his client over the phone that he had engaged in settlement discussions with the client’s estranged wife. The client repeatedly called Ryan to discuss the matter further but Ryan did not return any of his calls. That same month Ryan called the client’s mother, informing her that he had been robbed and was moving to Mexico. He also acknowledged owing the client $1,500 in unearned advanced fees but did not refund the money, telling her that her son should seek guidance from the State Bar. Later that month, just a week before the dissolution matter was set to go to trial, Ryan sent a letter to the client informing him he was withdrawing from representation.Ryan has been ordered to pay $1,500 plus interest in restitution. In mitigation, he entered into a pretrial stipulation with the State Bar.March 1, 2013 PADRIK SYMBIO RYAN [#256997], 38, of Coarsegold was placed on interim suspension March 1, 2013, following a federal conviction for importing marijuana.
