Discipline Summaries

November 19, 2015

CHRISTIE SOO-KYUNG LEE [#224944], 59, of Turlock, was suspended from the practice of law for 90 days and ordered to take the MPRE and comply with rule 9.20 of the California Rules of Court. She was also placed on two years’ probation and faces a two-year suspension if she does not comply with the terms of her disciplinary probation. The order took effect Nov. 19, 2015.

Lee altered the dates on four checks given to her by a client in her bankruptcy matter. The checks were to cover Lee’s fees but earlier bounced. When Lee learned the client had the $1,600 in her account, she changed the year of the checks to get around the bank’s policy of not cashing checks that are older than six months and obtained the money. After the client found out, Lee agreed to return the money, but tried to get the client to agree not to file a complaint with the State Bar. When confronted about the allegations against her, Lee first said she had nothing to do with the alteration of the checks, but later confessed.
