Discipline Summaries

May 28, 2016

RAAQIM A. S. KNIGHT [#217630], 40, of Los Angeles, was suspended from the practice of law for 90 days and ordered to take the MPRE and comply with rule 9.20 of the California Rules of Court. He was also placed on two years’ probation and faces a one-year suspension if he does not comply with the terms of his disciplinary probation. The order took effect May 28, 2016.

Knight’s discipline stems from the fact that he disappeared in 2013 while experiencing marital and financial difficulties. He abandoned his clients and forced them to find new counsel. He was charged with 10 counts of misconduct in three client matters including: failing to perform legal services with competence (three counts), obtain court permission to withdraw (three counts), return client papers and property (two counts) or communicate.

In mitigation, he had no prior record of discipline, presented evidence of his good character, was suffering from extreme emotional difficulties at the time of his misconduct and cooperated with the State Bar.
