Discipline Summaries

July 26, 2014

ROBERT GLEN CAMPBELL [#212149], 39, of Santa Clara, was suspended from the practice of law for two years and ordered to take the MPRE, pay restitution and comply with rule 9.20 of the California Rules of Court. He was also placed on three years’ probation and faces a three-year suspension if he does not comply with the terms of his probation.

Campbell stipulated to misconduct in six client matters including moral turpitude and failing to perform legal services with competence, render appropriate accounts to a client, return unearned fees, promptly release client files or respond to reasonable status inquiries by a client. Three of the matters were immigration cases in which Campbell took little or no action, repeatedly giving his clients false information about the status of their cases.

Campbell also failed to follow through with a client’s worker’s compensation case, did not promptly respond to the 12 emails and 64 phone calls requesting information on the status of her case and made false statements to her about its progress. In another matter, he failed to file a client’s divorce petition and, as of the time of his stipulation, had not returned $3,005 she paid him in advanced fees.

He was ordered to pay $10,355 plus interest in restitution. In mitigation, Campbell had no prior record of discipline and entered into a pretrial stipulation with the State Bar.
