Discipline Summaries

June 25, 2015

GINA MARIES SIMAS [#205367], 41, of Los Angeles, was suspended from the practice of law for 30 days and ordered to take the MPRE. She was also placed on one year of probation and faces a one-year suspension if she does not comply with the terms of her disciplinary probation. The order took effect June 25, 2015.

Simas’ suspension resulted from her December 2013 no contest plea for trespassing, a misdemeanor. Simas had been arrested for shoplifting at a Sephora store.

In mitigation, Simas had no prior record of discipline, displayed candor and cooperated with authorities upon her arrest, presented evidence of her good character and showed remorse. In addition, Simas experienced extreme emotional distress for years leading up to her misconduct, serving as caregiver to two of her closest friends who were diagnosed with terminal illnesses and caring for her father, who suffered a serious injury followed by a diagnosis of melanoma.
