August 7, 2011 GEORGE MAYER HALIMI [#170074], 62, of Los Angeles was suspended for one year, stayed, placed on three years of probation and was ordered to take the MPRE within one year. The order took effect Aug. 7, 2011. Halimi stipulated to two counts of misconduct in two matters.He borrowed $50,000 of a client’s settlement funds with an unsecured promissory note without advising the client of the risks inherent in such an arrangement. He has made some payments against the principal but stipulated that he entered into an improper business transaction with a client.In a second matter, he filed a small claims action against a client for $7,140 that he claimed was for handling a lawsuit and out of pocket costs. In fact, he was attempting to collect monthly payments he had made to the client. He stipulated that he misstated his claims to the court.In mitigation, Halimi had no prior discipline record and he cooperated with the bar’s investigation. |
