June 14, 2002 JUDITH SYLVIA BELDEROL LEWIS [#164748], 49, of Encino was summarily disbarred June 14, 2002, and ordered to comply with rule 955 of the California Rules of Court. Lewis was convicted of one count of felony mail fraud in May 2001 and was placed on interim suspension a year ago. According to the State Bar Court, the conviction was the result of her participation in a scheme to defraud insurance companies by referring her personal injury clients to a health care provider in exchange for cash kickbacks from the provider.Her conviction, wrote review Judge Ronald Stovitz, "is well-established to inherently involve moral turpitude, as an element of her crime is the specific intent to defraud."Summary disbarment may be imposed when an attorney is convicted of a felony that involves moral turpitude or where an element of the offense is the intent to deceive, defraud, steal or make a false statement.November 24, 2001 JUDITH SYLVIA BELDEROL LEWIS [#164748], 48, of Encino was placed on interim suspension Nov. 24, 2001, following a federal conviction for mail fraud.
