August 26, 2012 STEPHEN THOMAS BORRELLI, 49, of Los Angeles was disbarred Aug. 26, 2012, and was ordered to make restitution and comply with rule 9.20 of the California Rules of Court. Borrelli’s default was entered when he did not respond to charges that he violated a court order by failing to comply with rule 9.20. Any attorney who does not seek to have his default set aside or vacated within 180 days is subject to disbarment.Borrelli was first disciplined in April 2010 for failing to perform legal services competently, respond to status inquiries or keep a client informed of significant developments, and he disobeyed or violated a court order and failed to properly withdraw from employment. When he violated the terms of his probation, he was again disciplined with an order that took effect in 2011.He did not file a declaration with the State Bar Court, as required by rule 9.20, stating that he notified his clients, opposing counsel and other interested parties of his suspension.January 9, 2011 The probation of STEPHEN THOMAS BORRELLI [#143746], 48, of Los Angeles was revoked and he was suspended for two years and until he proves his rehabilitation, and he was ordered to comply with rule 9.20 of the California Rules of Court. He received credit for a period of involuntary inactive enrollment that began Sept. 12, 2010. The order took effect Jan. 9, 2011. Borrelli violated the terms of a 2010 probation by failing to meet with the Office of Probation, submit one quarterly report or join the bar’s Law Practice Management and Technology Section. The underlying discipline was imposed for failures to perform legal services with competence, communicate with his client, and withdraw from employment when his mental condition rendered it unreasonably difficult for him to continue his employment, and he disobeyed or violated a court order. |
