Discipline Summaries

February 19, 2016

GEORGE DARRELL BERGLUND [#133677], 68, of Half Moon Bay, was disbarred Feb. 19, 2016 and ordered to comply with rule 9.20 of the California Rules of Court.

In 2012, Berglund was hired to represent a woman in her divorce and a civil matter. After she fired him in 2013, Berglund filed an amended reply in her divorce case as her “former attorney” that disclosed confidential communications between the two and contained false and disparaging statements about the client. In addition, he made two complaints about her to the Board of Psychology that disclosed confidential information, contained false statements and were disparaging.

Among other things, he called his client “a bit wacko,” said she was a narcissist and falsely claimed she had stalked a judge and was practicing therapy without a license while barely supervised. He also failed to return client papers and property.

Berglund had one prior record of discipline, a 1999 public reproval that arose from a criminal conviction for petty theft.
