RICHARD E. ACKERKNECHT [#132175], 45, of Los Angeles was suspended for 12 months, stayed, placed on 24 months of probation with an actual 30-day suspension and was ordered to take the MPRE within one year. The order took effect April 9, 2006.

Ackerknecht was convicted of misdemeanor theft in two separate incidents in 1999 and 2005.

In the first case, he took two shirts from a Robinson-May Co. store. At the time of his arrest, he had five little black balls containing heroin on his person. He pleaded no contest to theft, a possession of heroin for sale charge was dismissed and a possession of heroin charge was deferred and a later guilty plea was dismissed.

In the second case, he pleaded no contest to taking several items from a Vons grocery store.

In mitigation, Ackerknecht has no prior record of discipline and he cooperated with the bar’s investigation.
