May 28, 2016 PETER T. BROWN [#125446], 59, of Van Nuys, was suspended from the practice of law for 90 days and ordered to take the MPRE and comply with rule 9.20 of the California Rules of Court. He was also placed on one year of probation and faces a one-year suspension if he does not comply with the terms of his disciplinary probation. The order took effect May 28, 2016. In January 2015, Brown pleaded no contest to assault with a firearm. The charge stemmed from an incident in 2013 in which Brown, drunk, threatened to shoot his goddaughter’s boyfriend in the kneecaps. At the time, the goddaughter, her friend and boyfriend were in Brown’s guest house, where the couple lived. Brown tripped and fell, dropping the gun, and the boyfriend grabbed it and called police.In mitigation, Brown had no prior discipline in many years of practicing law and entered into a pretrial stipulation with the State Bar. |
