April 25, 2014 GLEN STEVEN FLEETWOOD [#113429], 61, of Westlake Village was suspended for two years, stayed, placed on three years’ probation with an actual 90-day suspension and ordered to take the MPRE and comply with rule 9.20 of the California Rules of Court. The order took effect April 25, 2014. The State Bar Court found Fleetwood culpable of improperly advancing facts prejudicial to his client and failing to maintain the confidence and secrets of a client. The misconduct relates to a 2012 matter in which Fleetwood was hired to represent a client in a DUI matter. On April 23, 2012, the client came to Fleetwood’s office without an appointment to sign some documents. After the client felt he had waited too long, he left an angry note for Fleetwood that contained some profane language. In requesting to be relieved as counsel in the case, Fleetwood made derogatory comments to the court and a city attorney and shared the note, which placed his client in a negative light. Fleetwood later claimed that his behavior was justified because he feared for his life, an argument that the court did not buy.Fleetwood was disciplined once before, a 2005 public reproval for failing return an unearned fee in a single client matter. He received some mitigation for presenting evidence of his good character. |
